Isaac Zavale – Not Afraid of Art

Commissioned by the Academy of the Arts of the World as part of the project Not Afraid Of Art.
Not Afraid of Art – under this title, the academy members and international artists are collaborating with the Cologne art scene as part of a three-year project. The aim is to create a space for shared learning and to cultivate an understanding of the social and political potential of art.
The exhibition under the same name in the ADKDW Studio deals with the themes of power and fear and presents artistic positions by Barış Doğrusöz, Kanitha Tith, Anastasia Sosunova, Buket Isgören, and Žiga Sever.
Two interventions will be presented outside the ADKDW studio: The commissioned work How the Leopard got his claws by Yussif Musah at the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum until 01 12 2024 and Asithukanga by Isaac Zavale until 01 09 2024 in the showcases of the UNG-5, at the Ebertplatz subway station.
Isaac Zavale paints what a young man from the township puts up to visit Johannesburg. His story unfolds when he is confronted with his fear during a robbery. The Academy of the Arts of the World is showing his works in the exhibition Not Afraid of Art in the ADKDW studio and in the show cases at UNG-5 on Ebertplatz, accompanied by a radio interview.

Not Afraid of Art – unter diesem Titel kollaborieren die Akademiemitglieder und internationale Künstler*innen im Rahmen eines dreijährigen Projekts mit der Kölner Kunstszene. Ziel ist es, einen Raum für gemeinsames Lernen zu schaffen und ein Verständnis für das soziale und politische Potenzial der Kunst zu kultivieren.
Die gleichnamige Ausstellung im ADKDW Studio verhandelt die Themen Macht und Angst und zeigt künstlerische Positionen von Barış Doğrusöz, Kanitha Tith, Anastasia Sosunova, Buket Isgören, Žiga Sever.
Zwei Interventionen werden außerhalb des ADKDW Studios präsentiert: Das Auftragswerk How the Leopard got his claws von Yussif Musah im Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum bis zum 01 12 2024 und Asithukanga von Isaac Zavale bis zum 01 09 2024 in den Vitrinen des UNG-5, am U-Bahnhof Ebertplatz.
Isaac Zavales Malereien erzählen von einem jungen Mann aus dem Township, der sich durch sein angepasstes Äußeres wappnet, um Johannesburg zu besuchen. Seine Geschichte entfaltet sich, als er bei einem Überfall mit seiner Angst konfrontiert wird. Die Akademie der Künste der Welt zeigt seine Werke in der Ausstellung Not Afraid of Art im ADKDW-Studio sowie in den Vitrinen des UNG-5 am Ebertplatz, begleitet von einem Radiointerview.
